Programme Outcome: After completion of B.A Programme in Economics, the students will be well acquainted with the major concepts and principles of economics. They will be encouraged to analyze the basic economic ideas in practice and will also be able to learn the present and past economic condition of the country. Students will learn how economic activities like production, consumption, distribution etc. are organized by the markets. They will also acquire knowledge about national income, employment, inflation, deflation, business cycle, monetary and fiscal policy and the banking system. Students will acquire analytical and reasoning skill and will be able to predict about possible economic outcomes based on economic theories. Students will be equipped with quantitative analytical skills with the help of which they will be able to collect, tabulate, present and analyze data to support economic decision making.

POGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOME (CBCS): As the undergraduate CBCS programme is at par in all over the country, students will be immensely benefitted to gather knowledge about the subject equally with the students of other parts of India. This is a course on statistical methods for economics. It begins with some basic concepts and terminology that are fundamental to statistical analysis and inference. It then develops the notion of probability, followed by probability distributions of discrete and continuous random variables and of joint distributions. This is followed by a discussion on sampling techniques used to collect survey data. The course introduces the notion of sampling distributions that act as a bridge between probability theory and statistical inference. The semester concludes with some topics in statistical inference that include point and interval estimation.

This course introduces students to the basic concepts in Macroeconomics. Macroeconomics deals with the aggregate economy. This is a sequel to Principles of Macroeconomics–I. It analyses various theories of determination of National Income in greater detail. It also introduces students to concept of inflation, its relationship with unemployment and some basic concepts in an open economy.
ECO-SE-4014: Data Analysis

This is the first part of a two-part course on economic development. The course begins with a discussion of alternative conceptions of development and their justification. It then proceeds to aggregate models of growth and cross-national comparisons of the growth experience that can help evaluate these models. The axiomatic basis for inequality measurement is used to develop measures of inequality and connections between growth and inequality are explored. The course ends by linking political institutions to growth and inequality by discussing the role of the state in economic development and the informational and incentive problems that affect state governance.

This course is a non-technical overview of government finances with special reference to India. The course does not require any prior knowledge of economics. This is the second module of the economic development sequence. It begins with basic demographic concepts and their evolution during the process of development. This course develops a systematic exposition of models that try to explain the composition, direction and consequences of international trade, and the determinants and effects of trade policy. The faculty members and students of the department are regularly participating in the Institutional Social Responsibility and Extension activities organized by ECO Club, the NSS and Health Unit etc of the college.

SWOC analysis of the Department and future Plan

1. Strength

The Department did not have a single student in Economics Honours in the academic year 2020-21. There was only one student in Honour in the academic year 2019-20 bad news for the department is that he has to left the college for the financial crises of the family after appearing the 1st Semester Examination. In the year 2021-22 the Department got 5 students –two boys and 3 girls. Unavailability of the students in Economics Honours is not special problem for this college; this is a general problem and trend prevailing in rural area colleges for a long time.

2. Weakness

There is no or little desire for obtaining BA (Honours) in Economics among the new pass-outs from the Higher Secondary Schools because they think that economics is a very tough subject.

3. Opportunities

In spite of having its limitations, the department tries to render quality education, encourages and prepares students for building their higher academic career.

To make economics as an interesting/potential subject among the rural local students
